Why UCI?

I chose UCI because I was impressed by the residents' involvement in the community. I was looking to be trained in a program that would foster a learning environment in which I would feel supported by my coresidents and faculty, and would feel comfortable asking questions. Here at UCI I have definitely felt this support. I was excited to learn that our continuity clinic is a FQHC, and that it serves a large monolingual Hispanic population. As a bicultural and bilingual native Spanish-speaking physician, I will ensure to provide them with the high quality patient care they deserve. Also, during my interview trail, the residents always seemed happy and fun, and now that I am part of it, I have felt so welcome, formed close relationships with my co-residents, and I constantly feel surrounded by positive energy!

Medical Interests:

Underserved medicine, Latino health, Academic medicine, HIV care, LGBTQ+ care.

Hobbies:

Drawing, watercolor painting, exploring new local coffee shops, camping, board games!

Fun Facts:

I was raised in Ecuador for 17 years and was the first of my immediate family to move to the U.S.
I taught Medical Spanish at my medical school.
I enjoy climbing trees for fun.
I've been told I make really good Mojitos!

Future Plans:

I plan to serve the underserved community of Southern California, including providing high quality care to the Latino community. I also would love to be involved in Academic medicine, and potentially become faculty in a residency program. Lastly, I would love to own a coffee shop in the future as a side business!
